- The Pump in Style pumps at 2 speeds – I will call them Let-Down phase and Pumping phase since I do not know the technical terms. The machine starts out at a faster rate to encourage Let-Down of your milk supply and lets you customize the intensity of the suction (great so you can adjust to your comfort level so it isn’t painful). After a minute (?), it then changes to a slower rhythm that is meant to mimic your baby’s sucking motion. If your milk starts flowing before the let-down phase is done, you just push a little button to start the next phase. It is a very efficient system. I can get a lot pumped in under 10 minutes, which is great because sometimes that is all that I have!
- It is a Dual Pump – cuts down on pumping time when you can pump both breasts at once.
- It comes with 4 bottles a cooler and ice pack – makes it easy when you have a few bottles. 2 to pump and 2 to store milk in the fridge. Very handy when pumping away from home. They can be sanitized very easily, too.

- Dual pump means no free hands when pumping – unless you get one of those bras that holds them for you.
- I need to buy more bottles for storage – 4 is great, but I am finding that I may need more than that when I go back to work

Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast Pump Opinion
I nursed both of my children well beyond 6 months while working full time after 12 weeks home. I credit that endeavor to this wonderful machine. I used it in 2010 with my daughter and again in 2013 with my son. I took great care of it, cleaning and good storage in between, and it worked great both times. The first time I used the battery pack with rechargeable batteries because there was no outlet in the bathroom at my work. Yes I had to pump in the bathroom, there was literally no other option. The second time I was at a new branch with an outlet in the bathroom. The outlet is preferable as I noticed if the batteries got low the section wasn’t as great quality.
The tote is great because there is plenty of storage for back up parts, extra bottles, and an ice pack. I also liked the pockets. I kept magazines or work in their to keep myself entertained while I was pumping. It is also discrete if that’s something you look for. The men at my branch had no idea what this bag was. They just thought it was another purse.
Between the effectiveness of this pump and its ability to perform so consistently for 2 separate children I am very satisfied with this product. A great investment. Make sure to contact your health insurance company. New laws provide a pump to mothers so be sure to get all the information you can on this new benefit! Wish I had that available to me!
